MY FIRST FULLY COMPLETED PROJECT INVOLVING MY CUSTOM GEOMETRY. THE GOAL FOR THIS PROJECT WAS TO CREATE AN ACCURATE DRIVER MODEL OF "THE STIG" FOR ASSETTO CORSA TO USE ON MY "POWER LAP" VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE. THE FIRST PART TO MAKE WAS OF COURSE THE ICONIC SIMPSON HELMET. THE ISSUE WITH THAT WAS THAT USABLE REFFERENCE MATERIAL WAS RARE, SO I HAD TO MAKE SOME AREAS BY EYE. AFTER A LOT OF TRIAL AND ERROR AND HELP FROM A COUPLE OF FRIENDS, I HAD A USABLE MODEL OF THE HELMET.
AFTER THAT I DECIDED TO MODEL A SET OF ALPINESTARS SHOES TO MATCH. THEN CAME THE TASK OF PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER, AND ACTUALLY MAKING IT WORK. FOR THAT TO HAPPEN I HAD TO TAKE THE STOCK DRIVER 3D MODEL AND SCALE AND PLACE MY GEOMETRY ON THE CORRECT PLACES, AND ASSIGN THE GEOMETRY TO THE CORRECT MODEL "BONES". FINALLY I MADE SOME HIGH QUALITY TEXTURES FOR THE WHOLE MODEL AND EXPORTED IT IN THE GAME.

AFTER THE (SMALL) EXPERIENCE GAINED FROM THE RBX22 PROJECT, I DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING BIGGER TO LEARN. I NOTICED ASSETTO HAD NO GOOD KOENIGSEGG AGERA MOD, SO I DECIDED TO MAKE THAT.
IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT I USED ANOTHER KOENIGSEGG AGERA MOD AS A BASE FOR THE PHYSICS. FIRSTLY I MADE THE ENGINE FOR WHICH I TOOK THE PERFORMANCE TARGETS FROM KOENIGSEGG'S WEBSITE AND MET THEM WITH 100% ACCURACY. IT ALSO HAS DIFFERENT FUEL MODES, A REGULAR 81 OCTANE FUEL AND E85 BIOFUEL IN WHICH IT PRODUCES MAXIMUM POWER.
THEN, FOR THE DRIVETRAIN, I FOUND THE CORRECT PERCENTAGE OF TRANSMITTION LOSS, FOUND THE GEAR RATIOS FOR THE 7 SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX AND IMPLEMENTED AN E-DIFF SETUP, AS IN THE ACTUAL CAR.
THEN CAME SUSPENSION, FOR WHICH THERE WASN'T ANY INFO ON THE INTERNET, SO I DID WHAT REAL CAR BRANDS DO, AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE NORDSCHLEIFE. TOGETHER WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS WE TESTED THE CAR EXTENSIVELY AND TUNED IT TO OUR BEST ABILITY.
FOR THE AERODYNAMICS THE CAR MATCHES THE NUMBERS GIVEN BY KOENIGSEGG BUT IN THE FUTURE I WANT TO RUN CFD SIMULATIONS TO HAVE A MORE REALISTIC SETUP. THE CAR ALSO FEATURES A REMOVABLE ROOF THAT COMES WITH A DRAG PENALTY.
FOR THE VISUAL DEPARTMENT, WHEN THE BASE PHYSICS WERE DONE, I DECIDED TO DITCH THE ORIGINAL MOD'S MODEL AND CONVERT A MODEL FROM THE START TO HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER THE PROCESS. A CONVERTED MODEL WAS USED BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS TO MAKE A WHOLE CAR FROM THE START BUT IT WAS USED AS A TOOL TO LEARN HOW A QUALITY MODEL SHOULD LOOK AND WORK. NOW I'M AT THE TEXTURING AND MODELLING PHASE, WHERE IT'S A BACK-AND-FORTH BETWEEN AC, 2D DESIGN SOFTWARE AND 3D MODELLING.
MY FIRST PROJECT THAT INCLUDED 3D MODELLING. THE GOAL WAS TO MAKE A MODERN VERSION OF THE RED BULL X2010 CONCEPT DESIGNED BY THE GREAT ADRIAN NEWEY. THE PERFORMANCE GOALS WERE SIMPLE. BE FASTER THAN THE X2010 ON EVERY TRACK. PHYSICS-WISE, A NEW ENGINE WAS USED IN A TURBO-HYBRID V6 THAT PRODUCED 3.500HP. THE CAR ALSO WEIGHED 500KG AND HAD A REVISED AERO PACKAGE.
VISUALLY, AS I HAD NO EXPERIENCE IN 3D MODELLING I COMBINED PARTS FROM OTHER MODELS TO MAKE THE FINAL RESULT. ALTHOUGH THE PERFORMANCE GOALS WERE NOT MET, AND THE MODEL WAS BASICALLY A FRANKENSTEIN OF MULTIPLE MODELS, THE PROJECT HELPED ME UNDERSTAND BETTER HOW ASSETTO CORSA MODDING WORKS AND GET FAMILIAR WITH 3D MODELLING SOFTWARE.
IN THE FUTURE I'D LIKE TO REVISIT THIS PROJECT WITH MORE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS.
